International Unions

Europe

International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) - the site is in English, Spanish, French and German.  While it does not have specifically OHS information, but the site has sections on Decent Work, Young Workers, and so on.

European Trade Union Institute for Research, Education and Health and Safety (ETUI-REHS).
Originally established in 1989 by the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC). The site has information on topics such as Women and OHS, Asbestos, Stress, Health and Work Organisation. There is also a newsletter, list of publications and international links.

The Swedish Trade Union Confederation
For information on OHS initiatives in Sweden.

United Kingdom

Trade Union Congress
The Trade Union Congress (TUC) is the UK equivalent to the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU). The TUC has a large OHS section, and is also the "home" of several OHS related sub-sites, including the Changing Times Website, which has the TUC Guide to Work-Life Balance, news, case studies, and more. It also has links to the UK unions.

Risks Magazine
Risks is a weekly e-magazine, produced under the auspices of the Trades Union Congress (TUC). By subscribing to this e-magazine you will be provided with the latest OHS information from unions and other sources around the world.

Hazards Magazine
Hazards the internationally awarded health and safety magazine, is a not-for-profit and editorially independent publication. Workers' Health International News (WHIN) aims to provide trade unions and safety activists with the resources and information they need to expose and challenge threats to workplace health and safety.
There are several other Hazards sites of interest, including:

  • safetyreps.org - with features specifically of interest to OHS reps
  • The Union Effect stories and articles on how unions make a real difference to the OHS of workers,
  • Workplace disasters from around the world, and
  • an overview of international Union OHS Campaigns.

Union Ideas Network, with a specific Health and Safety section, is a free, information-sharing, web-based network hosted by the Centre for Industrial Relations at Keele University and the Work and Employment Research Centre at the University of Northumbria.

Public Sector and Commercial Services Union
This UK union has lots of helpful information, and some useful links.

Unison
Unison is the UK Public Services Union and has information on related hazards (eg call centres, etc)

USDAW
The UK retail sector union has a campaign on safety for retail workers, and more.

Prospect - the union for UK professionals has a good health and safety section.

United States

AFL-CIO: The US peak union body.
This is the OHS site of the AFL-CIO (the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Labor Organisations). The site includes the latest US unions' OHS campaigns, OHS news, articles and an OHS Tool Box with fact sheets, links and more. Also accessible from here is the homepage of the AFL-CIO.

New Zealand

New Zealand Council of Trade Unions OHS Reps website
This is the NZ Unions' website for OHS reps. They have a toolkit and information on campaigns, hazards and more.
